This charming little carnelian banded agate rose gold brooch dates to the Georgian Regency, very early Victorian era. A delicate piece that would have been used to fasten fichus and worn on the lightweight silk and chiffon gowns of the period.

The dusty rose coloured stone is cabochon cut with a gentle pillowed profile. It is semi translucent and spotted with subtle banding around the edge and an ethereal silver-grey centre. The stone is set into a 9ct rosy red gold bezel accented with raised beaded claws.

The hinge, clasp and pin stem are in a yellow metal and are a later Victorian replacement rather than the original. The original fastener would have been far more delicate than this robust one. This is a fairly commonplace occurrence, antique jewellery was treasured for generations and often underwent repairs during its long life.

A beautiful little antique gem with a unique stone, deserves to be treasured once again!
