A magnificent Victorian English silver locket necklace hallmarked for 1880 that contains large photos of a very attractive Edwardian couple.
The necklace is outstanding and very high quality. The overly large oval locket is exquisitely engraved and it has yellow and rose gold floral and foliage motifs along with the owners initials " FEO" The top is decorated with a beautiful large fanned bale. Inside are two wonderful black and white photos of a very attractive Edwardian couple (the locket predates the photos by about 30 years).
The locket suspends from a thick silver antique book chain that has long bar links, short love knot links and a torpedo clasp. The chain is very cleverly designed, once the clasp is fastened it becomes unobtrusive, the torpedo shape blends in seamlessly with the long links in the chain it and it takes a few moments to figure out where the clasp is again! The term book chain has its origin in the Victorian habit of using these thick chains as placeholders in books!
The photos really do not do this necklace justice. The locket was difficult to photograph as it is highly reflective so we apologise for the dark shadows and red streaked reflections. It is beautiful to the eye, a truly exquisite Victorian locket and chain, ready to wear effortlessly right out of the box. We predict it is destined to become your favourite go-to piece of antique jewellery!
