A fabulous antique sterling silver long guard chain with classic curb links and a dog-clip. This type of tight weave curb chain is often referred to as a wheat chain.
Very fashionable during the Georgian and Victorian eras these versatile and decorative guard chains were one of several jewels worn at the same time. They were used to attach, and keep close at hand, all manner of things like pocket watches, lorgnettes and portrait miniatures of loved ones.
The chain is in good antique condition with signs of age and moderate use and there is repair to a couple of the links, we have priced with this mind so please see the photos. The clip is in good order, fastening securely. Wheat chains are a tightly woven chain style and can develop kinks when not worn, a firm jiggle and twist at both sides of the kink soon releases it.
A beautiful antique chain, it has interest whether worn long or doubled, add a locket or a pendant or not! Please note the locket shown is not included.
