An adorable English green enameled Lily of the Valley antique sterling silver brooch featuring a central stem set with paste (glass) diamonds representing the flowers. The brooch is hallmarked for 1913, so just before the outbreak of the first world war.

Lovely quality, the brooch is dimensional constructed in two parts with the blossom stem wired onto the green leaf. It fastens securely with a tube hinge and C clasp. Can be worn by either sex, it is equally at home worn on the lapel, tie or cravat The Lily of the Valley flower symbolizes humility, chastity and purity. It is said to bring luck and love and is a popular addition to wedding bouquets because it is thought to promote happiness.

Measures: 2 inches long (approx 54mm)

Hallmarks: Stamped with anchor for Birmingham and date letter 'O' for 1913. Makers Mark: AJS (for Arthur Johnson Smith) and stamped with British registration number '621981'

Condition: In excellent antique condition with no noted wear to the enamel and the pin back in perfect working order. The paste stones are all present and correct with no yellowing. Fabulous for the groom or would make a perfect keepsake gift. Silver boutonnière style pins have always been a popular wedding accessory.
