This superb antique Scottish spinning fob is beautifully crafted in antique 9ct rose gold, a subtle shade of reddish gold often seen in antique pieces and it doubles as a locket too!
Hailing from the Victorian era one side is decorated in a beautifully engraved foliage pattern with an inlaid bloodstone shield, the other features ivy leaves and a round gold cartouche to accommodate an engraved monogram. It opens at the bottom to reveal a station inside for a photo along with a picture ring to hold it in place.
The top has a nice large bale so it can be worn with a wide variety of necklace chains, please note the chain shown is not included. It is in very good condition with signs of age and surface wear that you would expect in an antique piece but nothing untoward. It spins freely and the engraving is still beautifully crisp, the hinge is solid with the locket closing tightly with a satisfying snap. The chain is not included.
A wonderful antique Scottish fob/locket and an absolute classic of the high Victorian era. In 1852 Queen Victoria purchased Balmoral Castle and so began her love for all things Scottish. She set a fashion trend for Scottish jewellery which became highly collectable and it still remains that way today!
