Filigree is a delicate form of metal work in silver or gold made with tiny beads or twisted threads, or a combination of both soldered together and arranged in artistic motifs. It's sheer delicacy means that very few genuine antique pieces still survive today.
Crafted in high grade silver the brooch is fashioned as a large bow with 2 asymmetric tassel drops. The bow is ruched giving a superb 3-D effect imitating the gathers in a ribbon. The centre of the bow is decorated in a flower motif that is tiered with a silver bead on the top which adds even more to the dimensional aspect. The tassel drops are fashioned as bellflowers with coiled rods dangling from the bottom.
A simple t-hinge and c-clasp complete this exceptional piece that showcases the incredible skill and techniques used in making filigree jewellery. Just gorgeous and a fine addition to any antique jewellery collection!
