An incredibly rare antique blue jasper ware fob style gilt pendant made in the Josiah Wedgwood factory in England between 1785 and 1790.

Typically we see these very early Wedgwood fobs in black basalt, the only other blue jasper ware example we have seen is on display in the Victoria and Albert museum in London.

The fob/pendant is gilt (sterling silver plated with a thick layer of high carat gold) and it is beautifully embossed in a floral and foliate pattern. It showcases an exquisite neoclassical porcelain plaque in jasper ware (blue jasper dip with white and purple relief) depicting cupid, the god of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection.

We imagine this charming piece was originally given as a very generous sentimental love token, it would have been a significant jewellery purchase at that time.

This is a feminine dainty sized fob, an elegant frippery worn by the ladies as a pendant as opposed to the larger practical fobs worn by gents on heavy watch chains. Steeped in history and bound to be treasured it would make a unique addition to your collection of rare antique jewels!

Please note the chain is for display only and available for purchase separately.

MATERIALS: gilt (18ct gold plated sterling silver, tested)

DIMENSIONS: fob 1" (22mm) high, jasperware plaque approx. 15x11mm

DATE: c1790, Georgian

WEIGHT: 3.2 grams

CONDITION: In excellent antique condition especially given that this pendant is 230 years old. There is a tiny chip to the very edge of the porcelain plaque at the top that doesn't affect the image, please refer to the photos. The gold gilding is still intact, it has been well cared for and treasured!
