A fairly rare survivor this beautiful antique red coral necklace measures 16-3/8" long so it is worn high on the neck (at the collar bone) as was the fashion in Victorian times. The rolled gold fittings look to be original and the necklace fastens with a bolt ring that is attached to the silk necklace cord with an figure of eight finding. The cord is finished at the ends with gold coloured French wire.
The nugget and frond coral beads are undyed and a beautiful bright tomato red with a lovely polished shine, the frond branches graduate from roughly 18mm to 4mm in length. The necklace weighs 19.6 grams, it is in excellent antique condition with no noted flaws and the silk cord shows no signs of deterioration.
