A beautiful antique sterling silver and rose cut marcasite choker necklace in a graceful garland design. Circa 1920, and possibly German in origin the necklace shows style elements from both the Art Nouveau and Deco era so very much a transitional piece.
The necklace is a short length so best suited to a very slender neck or a necklace extender could be worn with it. It features articulated links in a curling paisley pattern with tulips that encircle the neck and a larger asymmetric panel at the front in a tulip and ribbon motif. The marcasite stones are meticulously hand set with tiny silver beads anchoring them in position rather than simply glued in. The necklace is also hallmarked 'silver' on every section, another sign of a top quality piece from a good maker.
Very striking, just gorgeous with the silver having a silky smooth antique patina the marcasites sparkling a steely grey.
