Circa 1920, a beautiful pair of antique sterling silver and paste "diamond" daisy earrings dating to the end of the Edwardian era.
Super quality these cluster earrings have screw backs and feature beautifully cut antique white paste stones claw set into decorative "button back" settings. With meticulous attention to detail the super sparkly gemstones are framed by tiny granulated silver beads.
Paste stones have an interesting history. Used in jewellery since Roman times paste is a heavy transparent lead glass with high indices of refraction and strong dispersion. In 1758 Viennese goldsmith Joseph Strasser invented a colourless paste that could be faceted and it exceeded the fire and brilliance of diamonds, this white paste stone came to be known as a "Strass". Good antique paste jewellery is an absolute joy!
The earring faces measure 1/2"/1.5cm in diameter. They are not marked and we have tested and verified that they are sterling. They are in excellent antique condition showing minimal wear, the silver is likely rhodium plated so will resist tarnish. The stones are securely set with no yellowing and the screws work perfectly and fasten securely. The earrings weigh 3 grams in total.
A gorgeous pair of antique paste earrings, perfect for the wedding bride or those seeking authentic period jewellery!
