Each alternating link is soldered closed, a thoughtful detail that adds strength, durability, and resistance to kinking. Weighing a very pleasing 31 grams, the chain has a luxurious feel in the hand and drapes beautifully when worn. The necklace opens and terminates with a desirable Victorian dog-clip clasp, stamped “S B C Co” to the interior.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVictorian rolled gold — also known as gold filled — was considered a premium material of the era and was used for high quality everyday jewellery intended to withstand regular wear. Unlike modern plating, the gold layer is mechanically bonded to the base metal and is exceptionally thick, often around 100 times thicker than standard gold plate. The result is jewellery with the rich colour, feel, and longevity of solid gold, but at a far more accessible price point.
