This charming little antique Victorian 9ct gold locket is engraved with a different pattern on each side so can be worn with either side facing, 2 lockets in one!
One side is decorated in an ivy pattern with a vacant shield cartouche in the centre to accommodate engraved initials, the other side is adorned in a different ivy design with a pretty scalloped cartouche in the corner, also for initials. To the Victorians the clinging ivy symbolised everlasting love and fidelity, this sentimental little locket would make a lovely romantic gift for someone special!
The locket opens from the side and shuts with a satisfying click. The original picture rings are still inside ready to frame the precious photos you will put inside. If desired this locket can be purchased with a new Italian 9ct gold fine curb chain as pictured - or you can purchase the locket alone if you prefer. The chains are 16"/40cm and stamped '375' for 9ct gold on the clasp.

MATERIALS: 9ct gold
MEASUREMENTS: locket 1" (2.5cm) tall, 5/8" (1.8cm) wide (2.6cm) and 5.4mm deep. the gold jump ring at the top is 4.5mm diameter and it is soldered closed.
WEIGHT: 2.2 grams
HALLMARKS: stamped with a worn obscured hallmark on the back, likely '9ct Back & Front'. We have acid tested and verified the locket is gold. Hallmarked "9ct gold back & front" lockets were produced for a very short time, around 1890 to 1915. A fleeting trend in British hallmarking these lockets are essentially gold, sometimes the interior rims might be a stronger metal, just as they might be in lockets stamped with the typical 9ct hallmark.
DATE: Victorian, circa 1900
CONDITION: in very good antique condition with light surface wear, minor scratches and a little tarnish in the crevices as you would expect in a locket this age.
