This lovely antique sterling silver locket is a medium to large size and features a classic Victorian Aesthetic engraved and stippled pattern with a fern flourishes in the centre framed in scallop decoration and arrow motifs that look like the footprints of tiny birds.
The top is finished in a wide bore heavy duty silver jump ring and it suspends from a sterling silver fine cable chain with a hook fastener. The chain is a tad over 18" (46cm) in length and is adjustable using the hook.
Dating to around 1860 the locket opens to reveal two compartments for photos along with paper liners and the original silver pictures frames. It opens easily and closes with a firm click.
The locket measures 1-1/2" (4cm) high (without the ring), 1-1/4" (3cm)wide and 8mm deep. Both the locket and chain are unmarked and acid test as solid sterling silver. Total weight is 12.9 grams.
Offered in very very good antique condition, shows light surface wear and a couple of minor pinpoint dings as you would expect of any preloved antique locket but nothing untoward or detrimental. This piece has been professionally cleaned and polished so it is ready to wear or give as a gift.
