Beautiful mid Victorian dyed pressed horn and Vulcanite pendant. The pendant is teardrop shaped and it features a central panel decorated in a stylized funeral urn and laurel leaf design accented in bas relief.
Very unusual we have not seen another like it and it rather reminds us of the crepe covered door knockers that were a way of signifying that a household was in mourning during the 1800's.
The pendant has a pretty pie crust scalloped edge and a large oval Vulcanite bail. We have attached a new satin ribbon to the pendant which is how it would have originally been worn but it can just as easily be worn attached to a silver chain or a jet bead necklace. An exquisite, highly collectible piece of pressed horn mourning jewelry and bound to bring joy to its new wearer!
