A beautifully engraved antique Victorian rolled gold/gold filled bangle bracelet in a romantic belt and buckle design.
Crafted on the oval this narrow bracelet is double walled with a D-profile and it has a hinge on one side and a hidden clasp with a push button on the other. It is beautifully engraved in an ivy leaf and fern flourish on the front with the back left smooth. The rolled gold plating is a lovely subtle rose gold colour, a shade characteristic of old gold.
The bracelet is in good antique condition with some age related wear to the heavy plating (mainly on the inside), surface scratches and tarnish. Please see the close-up photos. When the bracelet is open it rocks slightly at the hinge, this is fairly typical in these narrow rolled gold antique hinged bangles. The clasp snaps tightly shut and holds securely.
The charming buckle motif is a recurring theme in Victorian jewelry and was thought to render security and protection. The clinging ivy represents eternity and affectionate attachment. These lovely sentimental bracelets were often given to sweethearts and brides as a love token.
