A beautiful Victorian era figural silver brooch from the Aesthetic movement of around 1880-1890. This is a generously sized brooch fashioned as a belt with 2 buckles side by side and it is superbly detailed and engraved. The brooch comes in an antique dark red fitted case from a jewellers in British colonial India. The belt and buckle motif is a recurring theme in Victorian jewelry and symbolises protection, security and safety. These lovely sentimental pieces were often given to sweethearts and brides as a love token.
The brooch is in beautiful antique condition, it has likely sat, protected in this lovely box, for a very long time. A superb antique jewel, good for the gents or the ladies!
