A beautifully detailed and generously sized antique Victorian sterling silver locket brooch hailing from the Aesthetic era circa 1890. Oval in shape it is beautifully engraved in an ornate ivy design and framed by tiny milgrain beads and a scalloped border. The outer edge is outlined in larger silver beads. In the reverse the brooch has a deep compartment and a silver picture frame with a clear plastic cover that you can take out to place a photo, lock of hair or other precious keepsake safely inside. You can wear this oval brooch longways or sideways.
A classic love token steeped in sentiment this very sweet antique brooch is good for the ladies or the gents! Antique jewellery decorated in ivy was traditionally given as a token of affection. It symbolises eternal love and commitment, as in the charming Victorian rhyme “Close clings the ivy to the tree, so in my heart I cling to thee”!
