This beautiful Edwardian/Art Deco era 58" long guard chain necklace is a perennial favourite and a must have mainstay for any antique jewellry collection.
Crafted in sterling silver with classic curb links the chain is elegantly proportioned, it is narrow with fine small links. It terminates in a silver swivel clip that is on the small side so this is a chain better suited for wear with small and medium sized pendants and lockets rather than big statement sized ones.
An essential bit of Victorian and Edwardian kit, these versatile and stylish long guard chains were one of several jewels worn at the same time and used to attach all manner of necessary things like lorgnettes, muffs and chatelaine accessories. During the Art Deco era long chain necklaces became a symbol of emancipation, they were attached to pendants and tassels and were worn on the back of the body as well as the front!

HALLMARKS: stamped 'sterling' inside the dog clip and the chain acid tests as sterling
CONDITION: in excellent antique condition with minimal light wear, the chain is free flowing and the clip in perfect working order, fastening securely.
