An elegant antique sterling silver 55" long guard chain necklace with double curb links and a swivel dog-clip. A double curb link chain is a tight weave chain, 2 links are laid on top of each other and joined by a 3rd, this construction results in a durable chain resistant to breaking.
An essential bit of Victorian kit, these versatile and decorative guard chains were one of several jewels worn at the same time. They were used to attach, and keep close at hand, all manner of things like lorgnettes, muffs and pocket watches.
A beautiful antique guard chain, it has interest whether worn long or doubled, add a locket or a pendant or not! Please note the locket shown is not included.

CONDITION: The chain is in very good antique condition with expected signs of surface wear and use. A few single links are missing which is fairly typical in these double curb link guard chains, please see the photo. The swivel clip is a generous size and is in perfect working order, fastening securely. Tightly woven chains like these can form a kink when bunched up, a firm circular jiggle from both sides of the kink soon releases it.
