Interesting Mexican hallmarks authenticate this fabulous quality vintage sterling silver Orchid brooch that is reminiscent of Fred Davis' and Hector Aguilar's floral jewellery designs of the 1940s.
The flower is beautifully modelled in a retro design. It is crafted in 2 pieces: 4 deeply carved curvy petals surround a central stamen which is pulled through to the back forming the stem. The pin back is positioned near to the top so this substantial brooch doesn't tilt forward when worn.
Excellent craftsmanship, this piece looks fantastic as a pendant suspended from a silver chain. An all around fabulous example of mid-century Mexican Silver Studio jewellery, this brooch has a bold design that will elevate any chunky knit or coat!

WEIGHT: 12.9 grams
HALLMARKS: stamped (BE ?) in a circular heart shape makers mark along with 'DF' for Mexico City, 'STERLING' and 'HECHO EN MEXICO'. Also stamped with Eagle Mark '3' for Taxco which suggests that this is a piece made in Mexico City and sold in Taxco City.
DATE: mid-century, circa 1940
CONDITION: in excellent vintage condition with no issues, minimal wear with the pin back in perfect working order
