This gorgeous traditional English silver bracelet is steeped in nostalgia and romantic sentiment. "Gate" bracelets are so called because the links are said to resemble horse paddock gates and fences seen dotted around the British countryside. Bracelets with heart padlock clasps have been a perennial favourite since Victorian times, worn by women as a sign of fidelity and faithfulness, the padlock was only ever meant to be opened by her husband or lover!

MEASUREMENTS: bracelet 7-1/2" (19cm) in length, 1" (2.5cm) wide. Heart padlock 20x15mm, safety chain 2-1/2" (6cm)
HALLMARKS: stamped on the end ring 'WBS' makers mark 'leopard head' for London, 'date letter' 'C' for 1977 and the head of Queen Elizabeth II (an optional mark celebrating the Queen's jubilee year). Padlock stamped 'ASJ' makers mark, 'lion passant' for sterling, 'leopard head' for London and date letter 'A' for 1975 (different makers marks aren't unusual, they just mean that the company making these bracelets used padlocks made by another company).
WEIGHT: 27.7 grams
CONDITION: light wear in keeping with age and the padlock in perfect working order. Overall excellent condition.
