A fabulous mid century sterling silver and onyx necklace by the Mexican silversmith Los Ballesteros.
The modernist design features shell shape motifs set with onyx cabochons. The necklace is 16" long and fastens with a hook closure. Marks include "Ballesteros, Sterling, Handmade, Taxco" and the early eagle stamp.
This necklace was acquired from the Lolly Commanday personal collection. Lolly was one of the most respected collectors of Taxco silver in the United States and many of her pieces are featured in books that chronicle this Mexican art form.
