A superb antique 9ct gold bar brooch with a Bohemian garnet set star and crescent moon motif in the centre.
Fabulous quality and an impressive size that can't fail to be noticed this is a sturdy brooch with a heavy duty pin back. It is crafted in a long bar with scrolled ends forming the hinge and clasp.
The garnet encrusted star and moon motif is riveted onto the centre with the milgrain set rose cut garnets displaying luscious shades of juicy deep red with bright red flashes. Absolutely gorgeous and bound to bring compliments it could equally be worn as a tie or cravat pin.
To the sentimental Victorians who loved symbolism in jewellery, crescent moon and star motif jewels were the ultimate love token. They were given to sweethearts and gifted by grooms to brides on their wedding days. The crescent moon, because it eventually turns full represented the desire that a fledgling relationship would blossom into marriage. If such a jewel was gifted on a wedding day then the marriage would be happy and fulfilled. When stars complemented crescent moons which, they invariably did, it symbolised guidance and protection.
