This marvelous old yellow jade Chinese bangle looks to have plenty of age to it and its rather primitive construction adds to its unique antique charm. The bangle has a very small inner diameter (2.25"/5.5cm) so we think it is possible this was made for the local indigenous population rather than made for export to the West because it will only fit over a small hand.
The bangle is made from Nephrite Jade which has been tested using a Presidium Gem Tester. The beautiful yellow stone is a creamy buttery colour with white mottling and it has unique feathery line inclusions deep within the opaque stone. The jade has a matte finish with a satin lustre as opposed to a high shine.
The bangle is clad in a yellow metal that is either gold gilded brass or silver (we have not acid tested the metal because of its proximity the the jade). The metal collar has a dragon motif at one side of the bangle and a mythical phoenix bird at the other.
This bangle is in good antique condition with expected signs of age. There is a slight hairline crack around the jade bangle near the dragon's mid-section which is stable and doesn't move . The gold-tone metal has an darkened aged patina and there are spots of tarnished solder visible at the joints.
