This exceptional antique Victorian grouse claw Scottish brooch is a very large size and a superb quality piece. Grouse are game birds found in the British Isles and their feet have long been considered good luck amulets. Judging by the stately size, distinctive markings and incredible appearance of this specimen it is possible that it belongs to the Capercaillie, Scotland's largest grouse.

All the brooch fittings are sterling silver with the foot mounted in a beautifully engraved elegant silver cuff that is set with a genuine pale purple amethyst mounted in a crown gallery. A regal silver amethyst set ring adorns the middle toe on the foot. The amethysts have been tested and verified using the Presidium Gemstone Tester.

A fabulously impressive example of this type of unique Scottish jewellery, it is fairly rare to find a genuine Victorian example too. Traditionally worn on kilts, deerstalker hats and greatcoats grouse feet were very fashionable attire worn at game shooting parties held at Scottish country estates in the late 19th century. Good for the gents or the ladies and highly collectible too!
