Circa 1900 this superb Art Nouveau/Arts & Crafts era silver sash brooch is decorated in an embossed floral poppy pattern.
This is a large size heavy gauge silver brooch (not hollow) and it features paste (glass) ruby stones set into bezel cups which accent the design beautifully and give off a fiery glow.
This may have originally a belt buckle that has been converted to a brooch when fashions changed. The back is hallmarked "STERLING" and it has a long pin stem and "C" clasp that fastens securely.
The brooch is curved and the pin back is heavy duty so there is plenty of room behind to pleat or gather heavy fabrics and tartans. Measures 1-3/4" tall by 2-1/2" wide (65x45mm).
Condition is excellent with no issues, absolutely gorgeous piece in an iconic art nouveau design, superb quality and very finely made.
