This beautiful vintage 1930's 9ct yellow gold heart locket is a nice generous size and puffy so it is wonderful for larger photos or other little mementos and it suspends from a rolled gold belcher chain with elegant flat links and an antique "nubless" spring ring fastener.
The locket is stamped '9ct back & front' which means that the locket is basically 95% solid gold. The inner rim is a gold plated hard metal which adds strength and durability to the locket catch so it will withstand plenty of opening and closing. The chain is rolled gold on sterling silver. Rolled gold is a fused sheet of gold over a base metal so it is a much thicker than modern electroplated gold.
The locket has a 9ct gold jump ring at the top and it is engraved on the front in a pretty leaf vine and zig-zag pattern with a diagonal panel on the front to accommodate engraved initials. It opens from the side to reveal 2 stations for photos and it has a removeable gold frame in the back. You can place a photo in the front station by cutting it slightly larger and tucking it under the rim to hold it in place.
This is a lovely quality locket and chain is in very good condition with light surface wear in keeping with age. Please see the photos and excuse any dark reflections. The locket closes securely with a solid snap. The chain is free flowing with no damage to the links and the fastener is in perfect working order.
