A beautiful all original antique rolled gold/gold filled bracelet hailing from the Edwardian era. The bangle still resides in it's original antique French Blue leather box which we are including with the purchase.
The bracelet is a bangle style with a hinge at one side and a tongue shaped hidden clasp at the other. It is crafted on the round in 12ct rolled gold so it is a bright buttery yellow and it has a D-profile with a safety chain. The bangle features high quality engraving on the front in a beautiful floral scroll design and the back is left plain.
We believe the antique fitted bracelet box is completely original to the piece. It is correct for the period and is printed with 'Benson & Co. Jewellers in Mary Street, Dublin' and also "Made In England" so it is a fair assumption that this is a direct reference to the bracelet which is also stamped "Made In England". The box is hard cased and covered in blue leather with a burgundy velvet interior.
The bracelet is is wonderful antique condition and looks to have been rarely worn, it has probably lain forgotten in this box for a very long time. The engraving is still crisp and there is absolutely no wearing away of the gold overlay, the hinge is tight with no slippage and the clasp clicks tightly closed.
Rolled gold (called gold filled in the USA) is a mechanically bonded sleeve of solid gold over a strong metal core, it is significantly thicker than modern gold plating, which, is little more than a gold wash electroplated onto articles. Good rolled gold jewellery looks and feels just like solid gold and it has the added benefit that it is very durable.
A fabulous antique bangle, a timeless classic and a rare treat to find it in this fantastic box!
