An exquisite antique 14ct rolled gold pocket watch chain complete with a large swivel dog clip and decorative oversized bolt ring. The gold has a beautiful warm rosy hue, a subtle shade of rose gold that is characteristic of old gold.
Dating to the Edwardian period this super quality chain is short and elegantly proportioned with 'bookchain' style floral engraved curved links. These short pocket watch chains were worn with a coat or jacket when no waistcoat was worn, these days they make for a unique antique bracelet!
Made in Germany the chain is marked '14 AM. DBLE. GARANT' meaning '14ct Amerikaner Double Guaranteed'. Amerikaner is a German brand of high quality rolled gold jewellery made in Pforzheim, a town that was known as Goldstadt, or “Golden City” and renowned worldwide for its rolled gold jewellery and watches.
Rolled gold (gold filled) jewellery is made by mechanically bonding a thick layer of solid gold over a base metal. Rolled gold is at least 100x thicker than gold plating and it results in a very high quality finish that is durable and saturated in colour. It looks and feels like real gold jewellery but it won't break the bank!
