A well designed top quality British Arts & Crafts silver buckle made by Grey & Co., Oxford St. London in 1906.
The buckle is a fairly large size and a fab example of the "simplicity, utility, and beauty" characteristics seen in period Arts & Crafts jewellery and accessories. Solidly constructed it is gently curved to fit flat to the waist and it has hinged double prongs in the center to attach to a sash or fabric belt. All the components of the buckle are hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling which is always a sign of quality.
MATERIALS: 925 sterling silver
WEIGHT: 27 grams
ERA: Edwardian, dated 1906
MEASUREMENTS: 2-1/2" tall (6.5cm), 1-3/4" wide (4.5cm) and it will accommodate fabric up to 1-1/2" (4cm) wide
HALLMARKS: 'anchor' for Birmingham, 'lion passant' for sterling, date letter 'g' for 1906 and makers mark "Gy & Co" for Grey & Company, Oxford St., London.
CONDITION: in very good antique condition with light surface scratches as expected given age and use, the fastener mechanism in perfect working order.
