A superb antique Royal crest fob pendant crafted in sterling silver and 9ct gold. The fob is hand engraved and features the Scottish lion rampant, a Saltire (St Andrews) cross, garter belt and crown against a cut out background .
The fob is high quality and stamped with a full set of clear hallmarks for 1906, it is rendered in thick sterling silver with the lion rampant crafted in solid gold. Typically these applied motifs were simply gold plated, consequently the gold wash tends to wear off - this lion will always be golden!
A fabulous fob, one of the best we have seen in a very long time and it is in wonderful condition, any dark scratches in the extreme close up photos aren't visible to the naked eye. The fob would have originally been worn on a gent's Albert pocket watch chain, these days they make unique pendants for the ladies.
Since 1603 the lion rampant of Scotland has been incorporated into British royal arms and banners to symbolise Scotland, the saltire cross represents the Scottish flag, and the garter signifies the Most Noble Order of Chivalry founded by Edward III of England in 1348.
