This gorgeous little antique Georgian 9ct gold-cased fob is set in a vibrant orange Scottish carnelian intaglio that is engraved in the original owner's monogram "RW". Lovely and feminine in a neoclassical design the intaglio is enclosed in a beaded 'button' back setting with a reeded handle and a wide chunky suspension loop.
Gold-casing is a old technique seen in Georgian and Victorian jewellery. A fairly substantial layer of solid gold is mechanically bonded on to a stronger metal. This process reinforces the soft gold and results in a durable gold piece that will withstand heavy use, as we see in this fob!
Still turning out a beautifully defined impression this intaglio fob is as pretty as she is practical , we can't help but wonder who "RW" was!
