Circa 1850 a beautiful and very feminine Victorian mourning ring with vibrant royal blue enamelling decorated in seed pearls that are set in a beautiful curling cross motif. The pearls hinting at tears shed for the deceased. Whilst the colour black is typically associated with mourning, blue morning jewellery was fashionable in Georgian and early Victorian eras, likely due to the colour's Royal connection.
The ring is made in warm 15ct gold, a subtle rose gold shade characteristic of lovely old gold. It has an elegant elongated oval face that is fully enclosed at the back and split shoulders leading to a classic d-shaped band. Given age the ring is in very good condition with light surface wear and signs of age as expected. Under close magnification there is a small repair to the enamel which isn't particularly noticeable to the naked eye.
