This very collectable British silver shilling coin is dated 1887 and it is permanently set into "spectacle" style sterling silver pendant mount with a decorative scrolled yolk at the top. The shilling coin is 92.5% silver so it is solid sterling silver too.
The pendant suspends from a vintage Italian sterling silver Spiga chain, with its tightly woven links this quality chain finishes this queenly pendant to elegant perfection.
1887 marked the year that Queen Victoria celebrated her Golden Jubilee and it quickly became a craze to wear jewellery created from silver coinage minted in that special year. The British public worshipped her for being 50 years a Queen and showed it by enthusiastically adorning themselves in jewellery that bore her image!
