This beautiful heart shaped antique locket is circa 1890 - a true Victorian era piece, it is made of a warm old yellow gold. The front of the locket is engraved with leaf flourishes and has a ribbon shaped vacant cartouche to accommodate a monogram should you wish to have it engraved for a personal touch. The reverse is engraved in flowers and graceful scrolled swirls. This locket is topped in a diamond faceted jump ring and it can be worn with either side facing to vary the look.
A lovely classic antique locket that would make a very special gift idea. We will include a complimentary vermeil (18ct gold-plated sterling silver) fine curb chain for immediate wear or you can pair her with your own gold chain.
Inside the locket there is space to put photos, in the front there's the original paper liner, photo frame and hard plastic cover that has yellowed with age. You can put a photo in the other side, just tuck it under the rim to hold in place. The locket is in very good condition given age and closes securely.
The locket tests as '9ct Back and Front'. Back and Front lockets were typical of gold lockets from this era. Made for a short period of time they were manufactured using solid gold sheet for the front and back with the inner rims, frames etc. made of a stronger gold plated base metal. An exercise in Victorian frugality!
