This beautiful quality antique rolled gold/gold filled Scottish agate spinner fob is a locket with an adorable photo of a little Victorian girl inside and it suspends from a period chain.
Rolled gold (gold filled) jewellery is made by mechanically bonding a layer of solid gold over a base metal, usually brass. Significantly thicker than gold plating (the gold layer is at least 1/20 of the overall metal content by weight), it is a high quality finish saturated in colour. In fact we did think this piece was solid gold until we tested it, the finish is that good!
Oval in shape and set on one side in warm spicy red carnelian, the other side has forest green bloodstone liberally spattered in red. It features an arched finial and an teardrop shaped swivel bale at the top. The locket compartment opens from the bottom to reveal the photo along with a picture ring and glass cover. The photo can be removed and replaced with your own if desired.
The chain is also rolled gold, it is a continuous necklace (it goes over the head) and has thick oval squared off links and a hook at the end. Both the locket and chain are a beautiful warm rosy gold colour.
A wonderful antique Scottish fob locket necklace and an absolute classic of the high Victorian era. In 1852 Queen Victoria purchased Balmoral Castle and so began her love for all things Scottish. She set a craze for Scottish jewellery which became highly collectable and it still remains that way today!

CONDITION: in very, very good antique condition showing just light surface wear and no wearing away of the gold layer. It closes securely and spins properly.
