A beautiful Victorian dendritic agate and sterling silver Scottish brooch.
This a fairly large brooch that showcases a lovely translucent clear banded agate stone with lots of banding and feathery inclusions in shades of rich brown. The agate is flat cut and faceted around the edge. An elegant rope trimmed silver border frames the stone and a solid heavy duty pin back with an extra long pin stem completes this classic Celtic brooch which benefits from a decorative silver safety chain.
The Victorians were absolutely fascinated with the natural world and these picturesque examples of Scottish "pebbles" were sought after and treasured, fueled by Queen Victoria's great love and affection for Scotland and the jewelry created there.
