Fabulous antique Victorian sterling silver long guard chain with classic curb links, often known as a wheat chain. The chain terminates in an extra large dog clip so will accommodate the biggest lockets or pendants with ease - for scale the large locket we have shown in the photos in 3" (7cm) in length .
Add a locket or pendant or not, it has interest whether worn long, doubled or tripled. During the Georgian and Victorian eras these versatile chains were one of several jewels worn at the same time and were used to attach, and keep close at hand, all manner of things. Please note the locket is available for purchase separately.
MATERIALS: 925 sterling silver throughout, acid tested
MEASUREMENTS: The chain measures 2.6mm wide with a total length of approx. 60"(152cm): it measures 30" (76cm) down each side. The dog clip is fixed (doesn't swivel) and measures 25x8mm
DATE: Victorian, circa 1880

HALLMARKS: stamped 'sterling' on dog clip and anchor for Birmingham, and date letter 'W' for 1896
CONDITION: In very, very good antique condition with expected signs of age and wear but nothing detrimental, please see photos. The dog clip is in perfect working order.
