A lovely Victorian 9ct gold book locket & chain. The locket has a different pattern on each side so you can wear it with either side facing.
One side features a blue enamelled belt and buckle motif which represented loyalty, strength and protection to the sentimental Victorians. The other side is engraved in a pretty floral pattern.
The locket opens from the side to reveal a fairly deep glass fronted locket box. The box contains a cardboard and a black fabric liner. These box compartment lockets were often used to accommodate a loved ones hair so the woven fabric gives you an impression of how it would look with real hair in it.
If you wanted to add your own hair or a small photo the box is easy to flip out using a thin blade or tweezers. The locket suspends from a fine 9ct gold twisted loose rope chain that measures 18" (46cm)
The locket is in good condition showing antique age. It has surface wear a few tiny dings and and some loss to the blue enamel. The ring bale at the top has a little spot of old solder that is only really noticeable on close inspection, please refer to the photos. The locket hinge is solid and in good order with the locket snapping tightly shut. The chain is in very good condition, kink free with no breaks.
