A wonderful antique rock crystal quartz double sided locket that can be enjoyed as it is and worn as a 'pools of light' pendant or used as a locket to display 2 precious photos, or other flat keepsakes like pressed flowers.
The locket is rolled gold/gold filled and it is stamped 'gold shell' which is an old fashioned term for solid gold that is mechanically bonded over a core of a strengthening metal often silver. It has all the appearance and feel of solid gold but it is heavy gauge and can withstand plenty of wear without loss to the gold layer, it is much thicker modern gold electroplating. The gold is a lovely rosy shade of antique rose gold.
The crystal is rock quartz, not glass, with a dome profile so when you put photos in they are beautifully magnified. The crystal has a stepped edge so it fits inside the gold collar perfectly.
The locket opens by unscrewing the bail at the top allowing access to the photo compartment inside. The screw mechanism aligns perfectly to close the locket and screws back tightly to keep the contents secure. A fabulous antique crystal locket with tons of versatility!
