A beautiful Victorian 18ct gold vermeil (gold-plated sterling silver) AEI mourning locket, symbolising Amity, Eternity, Infinity—a deeply meaningful sentiment popular throughout the Victorian era to represent eternal love beyond death.
The locket opens to reveal two deep internal compartments, complete with the original rimmed picture frames and glass covers. Traditionally used to hold hair weaves or photographic mementoes of the deceased, the interior remains empty save for black paper liners.
Substantial in size with a softly puffy profile the high carat gold plating gives the locket a rich buttery appearance and it benefits from an oversized bail that will comfortably accommodate most chains. The finely engraved AEI motif is applied and pegged to the front, adding attractive dimension and period craftsmanship. In very, very good condition, it closes securely with a satisfying click.
A beautiful and classic example of a Victorian mourning locket, and increasingly hard to find in such a complete and well-preserved state. Please note the chain is not included.

CONDITION: in excellent antique condition, no dents or dings, a couple of minor surface wear spots to the gold plating with the silver showing through. Note any dark spots are reflections
