This beautiful antique English 9ct locket is a medium to large size and it hails the Victorian Aesthetic era circa 1890. The gold is a subtle rosy reddish colour, a gorgeous shade that is characteristic of old gold.
The locket is beautifully hand-engraved in a romantic design with sweeping swallows and climbing roses decorating both sides. It has a lovely pillowed profile and opens from the side to reveal 2 photo stations along with satin and card liners and it has a gold picture frame on the shallower side. The top of the locket has a 6mm gold jump ring attached which will happily accommodate most gold chains.
A gorgeous generously sized antique locket that is steeped in romantic sentiment. The Swallow is a beloved Victorian jewellery motif that speaks of love and loyalty - Swallows mate for life - and the Rose well, it is the universal flower of love!

MATERIALS: 9ct gold
MEASUREMENTS: 1-1/2" (3.5cm) tall, measured without the bails it is 1-1/4" (3cm) tall and 1" wide (2.5cm). It is 7.8mm deep and the jump ring is 6mm diameter.
HALLMARKS: stamped, '9ct - Back & Front' on the back. Hallmarked "9ct gold back & front" lockets were produced for a very short time, around 1890 to 1915. A fleeting trend in British hallmarking these lockets are essentially gold, sometimes the interior rims might be a stronger metal, just as they might be in lockets stamped with the typical 9ct hallmark.
