Circa 1880 this wonderful antique sterling silver locket showcases a beautiful hand-engraved Asian style scene on the front depicting a pair of swallows calling to each over through the branches of a picturesque tree. A piece bursting in sentiment, to the Victorians these romantic birds were a cherished jewellery motif, they symbolised loyalty, devotion and a promise to return safely home!
The locket is a medium to large size with a gorgeous puffy profile. It opens from the side to reveal 2 stations for your precious photos along with black satin liners, clear acetate (plastic) covers and the original picture rings. The top is finished in a lovely chubby teardrop shaped bale. The locket suspends from a fabulous vintage sterling silver belcher/rolo chain that complements perfectly her antique character and style.
