An outstanding and evocative antique sterling silver fouled anchor brooch set with a glowing orangey-red Scottish agate cross. To the Victorians, jewellery featuring anchor and cross motifs represented hope, fidelity and faith making this a particularly sentimental and symbolic piece.
The brooch is an impressive size and beautifully detailed with fine hand-engraving and an applied silver rope accent wrapped around the centre. The agate cross is a warm spicy orange, semi-translucent with shaded banding and skilfully cut into a hexagon form. The brooch features a large integrated ring at the top so you might even wear it as a pendant. The reverse is finished in a sturdy pin back with a traditional t-hinge and c-clasp typical of the era.
A rare and exceptional example of genuine Victorian Scottish “pebble” jewellery, hand crafted and beautiful quality. A truly special piece for the collector, connoisseur, or anyone drawn to meaningful antique jewellery.
