A fabulous antique sterling silver pocket watch chain with chunky oval double links complete with a dog-clip, T-bar and beautiful Maltese Cross and 4-Lion fob that is hallmarked for the year 1889. This classic piece of Victorian kit is long enough to be wrapped around the wrist twice so you can wear it as a bracelet as well.
Known as a "Belcher" chain it has broad d-shaped links and there are smaller concentric links inside the outer links that help keep the links fitted together and prevents wearing away of the silver on the outer links. This double walled construction is a sign of quality in an antique chain.
Wonderfully tactile this chain has taken on a gorgeous patina over the past 150+ years, giving it a smooth almost snake-like feel as you move it around in your hand. The delightful "cross pattée" fob adds a heraldic touch with four 'Lion of England' motifs accenting the centre. The vacant round cartouche in the centre of the fob means you could choose to have it engraved for a personal touch.

HALLMARKS: Fob stamped 'lion passant' for sterling, 'anchor' for Birmingham, date letter 'P' for 1889 and makers mark 'JF'. T-bar stamped 'lion passant', date letter 'W' & makers mark 'HA&S'. Dog clip stamped 'S' inside for silver. All components are acid tested and verified sterling.
