A super fun retro sterling silver figural brooch in the form of a crab made by the American company Walter Lampl in the 1940s. Crafted in thick gauge sterling the brooch is lovely quality and wonderfully modelled with tons of great detailing, a fabulous unique piece!
The brooch measures 2" (2.5cm) wide and weighs 12 grams. It is in lovely vintage condition with only light wear in keeping with age and is stamped on the back with the WL shield trademark and 'sterling'.
A fabulous silver accent accessory good for the gents or the ladies and a great piece for the collector or someone who loves the quirky and unusual.
Walter Lampl only manufactured jewellery between the years 1921-1959 so his pieces are quite difficult to find. Hiring women as jewellery designers Walter's motto was “Creators of the Unusual, As Usual.” and he was granted exclusive rights to produce souvenir charms for the New York World’s Fair in the late 1930's. The company also manufactured patriotic jewellery producing a range of silver and enamel charms called 'Bundles for Britain' that were sold in the US during WWII to raise funds for the British War Relief Society.
At Mercy Madge we offer antique and vintage jewellery that is special and each piece is hand selected by us for you. We rarely come across two identical old treasures, once they are gone, they are truly gone!
