A wonderful large repousse sterling silver antique portrait brooch dated 1904. The brooch depicts a "Gibson Girl" style portrait and is beautifully detailed with flower and shell motifs that are so evocative of the era. In the US and Canada the sentimental Gibson Girl was considered the Edwardian personification of the feminine ideal.
The brooch is stamped on the back with "Sterling Front" and "Pat'D Jan.26.1904." The design patent was issued by the United States Patent Office to Sidney A Keller, a New York based manufacturer of dies for silverware, jewelry and other decorative items.
