A beautiful antique sterling silver Scottish claymore sword brooch made by James Crichton & Co, Edinburgh.

The brooch is a tad over 2-1/2" long and beautifully engraved and detailed. A golden glowing cabochon of citrine (called a Cairngorm in Scotland) nestles inside the basket hilt of the sword handle and the blade is set with slices of bloodstone and red jasper.

A fine old example of a Scottish silver Claymore sword brooch, lovely quality and good for the gents or the ladies.

Sword brooches set with Scottish gemstones became very popular at the height of the "Scottish Pebble" craze that occurred after Queen Victoria purchased Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She set a fashion trend for Scottish jewellery which became highly collectable and it still remains that way today!
