Hard to believe given age but this superb all original antique Victorian locket looks as fresh and new as the day she was made in 1878, and with a different beautiful design engraved on each side you get two lockets in one!
Crafted in bright buttery gold vermeil (a high quality, high carat gold plated sterling silver) and stamped with extensive British hallmarks one side is exquisitely hand engraved with a personal monogram in stately Gothic script. The other side is engraved in a beautiful floral design with lilies and trailing ivy that symbolise love, femininity and fidelity. We can't help but wonder if this was a wedding gift to a Victorian bride from her adoring husband!
The locket opens from the side to reveal the original glass covers, black silk liners and silver picture rings. The rings are D-shaped instead of your typical flat ones, and they are stamped with hallmarks too, always a sign of a quality piece. The locket has its original hanging bale at the top that fits into a banded slot forming a decorative hinge, the bale is also hallmarked.
In excellent condition, very light surface scratches under close magnification but there are no signs of any real wear or use. Everything about it is crisp and sharp with the gilding still a bright gold and all the original contents still safe and perfectly fitted inside.

HALLMARKS: locket stamped 'lion passant' for sterling, 'anchor' for Birmingham, date letter Gothic 'd' for 1878 and makers mark 'D&M', also stamped with the lion passant on the bale and both picture rings.
