Circa 1850 this extremely pretty and feminine Victorian locket is made in 9ct gold and is exquisitely engraved and chased in ornate floral detailing and inlaid in black enamel. A traditional mourning piece it is decorated with a heart motif and forget-me-not flowers on one side with the other side decorated in a floral spray that includes a thistle, so perhaps there is a Scottish connection. It has a beautiful scalloped outline and can be worn with either side facing, both sides are equally as pretty!
The locket opens from the side to reveal a deep recess on one side along with a glass fronted gold frame that is removable. You could place a photo inside the frame and tuck a little lock of hair or other tiny keepsake behind it if desired. The locket is topped in a large hinged bale that will happily accommodate your favourite gold chain. Alternatively, this locket can be purchased with the antique 9ct gold chain as shown in the photos. The chain has flat cut links with an old style 'nubless' spring ring catch.
Steeped in tender sentiment this a gorgeous addition to any antique jewellery collection!

CONDITION: in very good condition showing light surface and a small amount of enamel loss as to be expected in an antique locket this age. It closes tightly with a click and the glass is free of any damage.
